Prior to the General City Council meeting on April 14, two re-elected city councilmen, Ronnie Brinsfield with Ward 4 and Tony Fields with Ward 2 were sworn into office by Mayor Daniel Tarkington.
Fields stated he was happy to have served for eight years and says he looks forward to serving out his next term also.
Brinsfield will be starting his second fouryear term and stated he was pleased to continue to be a voice for the residents of his ward and the city.
Also sworn into office were new city councilmen, Rusty Rogers for Ward 3 and Rusty Beaver for Ward 1.
Rusty Rogers, a fourth generation Checotahn, stated, “I’m excited to get to work with the city and see what we can accomplish.”
Rusty Beaver believes he can help by bringing in more business into the city and plans to get some things done that will hopefully please the residents of Checotah.
Mayor Daniel Tarkington also honored city councilman Willie Wiles and Ernie Moore with plaques of appreciation for all the hard work they had done while serving the Checotah City Council. Wiles served a total of 17 years and Myers served a total of 16 years.
Tarkington said, “I appreciate all the time that Councilman Wiles and Council Myers have given to the City of Checotah as they served the people. Being a public servant is not an easy job but it can be rewarding when things get accomplished. But with that being said I am also excited about our new councilmen that bring a different area of expertise to our council. With all the projects that we have going on, I believe they will bring new insight with their specific backgrounds in building and groundwork and I look forward to working with them. I’m very excited to see what everyone is going to bring to the table to keep Checotah growing in the right direction.”
