A Wilburton man has been charged with the shooting death of a Eufaula woman one week before Christmas.
Dead is Brenda Wilson, who was shot with a .22 caliber handgun on Dec. 18 at her residence in a rural development southwest of Eufaula.
Glen Edward Calvin, 54, was arrested at the scene of the shooting that took place shortly before 10 p.m. on Brown Bear Lane, near Paradise Hill north of Eagle Bluff, according to investigators.
At his initial court appearance on Friday, Dec. 27, Calvin was charged with murder in the first degree – deliberate intent; murder in the first degree and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges entered a not guilty plea on the defendant’s behalf but at the request of the district attorney’s office no bond was set.
A pre-preliminary hearing conference is scheduled for 9 a.m., Jan. 29, 2025.
Deputy Matthew Youngblood, investigator with the McIntosh County Sheriff ’s Department, stated in a probable cause affidavit that on the night of the incident he was sent to the Brown Bear Lane address to investigate a shooting.
Calvin was at the scene and Youngblood said during questioning admitted he had possession of the .22 caliber revolver but that it, and several other guns found at the residence, belonged to the shooting victim.
Youngblood said he checked the suspect’s criminal records and learned that he had been convicted on Jan. 20, 2004 in Latimer County of driving under the influence of alcohol, a felony, and convicted on Feb. 25, 2013 in Crawford County, Arkansas of making terroristic threats.
Motive for the shooting was unclear at press time. The relationship between the victim and the suspect also was unclear.
