The body of Thos. Martin, a full-blood Indian living east of Oktaha, was found early Thursday morning lying beside the railroad tracks near the Creamery. The body was discovered by G.C. Hood who immediately notified Sheriff Bob Russell and Chief of Police Erv Kelley.
Martin’s head was considerably bruised up and covered with blood. It is not known whether he was attempting to board or get off the train that killed him. He had been dead only a short time. His identity was ascertained by a First National check book in his pocket, the stubs showing that he had issued checks to a number of Checotah businessmen. He was quite well known here doing most of his business with Checotah merchants.
The body was taken to the Checotah Hardware undertaking parlor. —- Since the above was written it is learned that the Indian’s real name was Sam Fixico and whose failing was writing bogus checks.
He formerly lived at Dustin and according to reports kept the officers busy.
Officers from Dustin were in Checotah Wednesday night on his trail with warrants for arrest for issuing bogus checks.
