FORT GIBSON — The Christmas candlelight tours at Fort Gibson Historic Site will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, starting at 6 p.m. Guests will be led by candlelight through scenes of 19th-century life in the palisade and surrounding areas of the fort.
The tours will be family- friendly and should take about an hour.
Groups will leave every 20 minutes from the palisade, and each tour is limited to 10 people. The last tour will start at 8 p.m.
Tours will begin with a short history of the site before moving to the palisade, mess hall and dog trot.
After viewing each skit, guests can enjoy cookies and hot cider. Santa will also be available for photos. The tour ends with a hayride back to the parking area.
The event is conducted by candlelight and, if available, moonlight. The tours will occasionally require walking over uneven ground. There are not many seating areas available along the path.
Tickets must be purchased in advance to secure your spot. They are non-refundable but may be transferred to another person for the same date and time.
Guests should arrive at least five minutes prior to their tour time. Tours will not be delayed if someone is late, and you will not be guaranteed a spot in a later tour.
Call 918-478-4088 or visit the Fort Gibson Historic Site visitor center at 803 N. Garrison Ave. in Fort Gibson to purchase tickets and reserve your spot.
Tickets must be purchased before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.
