Over 200 producers turned out last Tuesday evening for the McIntosh County Cattlemens Association Annual Membership Banquet at the Checotah Senior Citizens Center.
MCCA President Josh Emerson thanked everyone for coming and stated that this county has one of the largest associations and has always been very active in the association.
Oklahoma State Extension Specialist for Livestock Mar- keting Dr. Derrel Peel gave an interesting and promising report on feeder steer prices, along with slaughter prices and beef cow inventory. Most interesting was the decline of beef replacement heifers with 40-45 percent of them being sent to slaughter rather than being bred for needed offspring. He also spoke on the drought and how it has affected all the counties in Oklahoma.
Delicious beef steak dinners, complete with a twice-baked potato, salad and dessert, were served by Runts BBQ and the meal was sponsored by Armstrong Bank, Peoples National Bank, Oklahoma AG Credit, First Family Federal Credit Union, Farmers State Bank and Bank of Eufaula.
Runts also donated several $100 dinner certificates to the nice array of door prize drawings won by several lucky members when their name was drawn.
Businesses who donated to door prizes also included Greens Elevator, Livestock Nutrition Center, Morton Buildings, McIntosh County Farm Bureau/ Tim Campbell, Oklahoma Ag Credit, Helena, Campbell Medical Wellness, Printy Please, Sharpe’s Dept. Store, Vita Farms, Voss Veterinary Clinic and P&K Equipment.
Checotah Conservation District also conducted a locally led resource survey.
