On Nov. 11, the Checotah Police Department was contacted by an inspector for Caseys gas pumps who had found a credit card skimmer on Pump #9 during a routine inspection.
Checotah PD went to the gas station and checked every other gas pump within the city limits and did not find any other skimmers. They also shared photos on their social media site to show patrons of these convenience stores how to visually check pumps themselves before using them to keep their cards safe from scammers.
Patrons should always look before putting their card into any reader. If they see any type of plastic tab or metal piece that seems different, report it to the store clerk immediately.
Patrons should also contact their bank if they suspect anyone has access to their card or has made fraudulent charges. If fraudulent charges have been made, remember to file a police report also.
