The Military Order of the Purple Heart wants to recognize the Historical Black Towns of Oklahoma as Purple Heart Cities.

A ceremony for the presentation of a proclamation honoring the Historical Black Towns will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 7 at the Muskogee’s Martin Luther King Center, 300 West Martin Luther King.

“We have recognized over 185 towns in the state of Oklahoma as Purple Heart Cities,” said Donald R. Nichols, Adjutant of Chapter 617, Muskogee.

We would also like to honor any veterans in your community that may want to travel to the event,” Nichols said.
