Linda Joyce Davis, 79, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov. 4, 2024. Born on Jan. 7, 1945, to Virgil Wayne and Mattie Opal (Patterson) Proe in Checotah, Linda was a lifelong resident of the area. She completed her education at Stidham, graduating in 1963. Later, she pursued further studies and earned an Associate of Science Degree from Connors State College in 1998.
On Jan. 21, 1967, Linda married Carl J. Davis in McAlester, Oklahoma, marking the beginning of a loving partnership that lasted 46 years. Throughout her life, Linda was active in her community and was a valued member of the Onapa Baptist Church.
Linda is survived by her four children: Jeff Jan.
Davis and his wife Susan of Warner, Jamie Ashworth and her husband Dustin of Muskogee, Janet Pouncil and her husband Eugene of Checotah, and Jennifer Sims and her husband Jay of Salisbury, North Carolina. She also leaves behind her brothers Donnie Proe and wife Deb and Denny Proe (and wife Diana), sisters Billie Ford, Pam James, and Cheryl Story (and husband Gary), as well as thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl and her parents, Virgil and Mattie Opal Proe.
Her family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life and cherish her memory.
The family held a memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at the Onapa Baptist Church. Cremation arrangements were made with Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
