Area residents can do enjoy benefits of a free health service offered by Oklahoma State University all from within a mobile van. Every Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. the OSU Mobile virtual care unit will be parked in front of the OSU Extension office for families to access health care at no cost.
The Oklahoma State University Mobile virtual care will offer convenient basic medical care visits and be a resource for the community. Best of all, the service offered is free.
The mobile clinic will be staffed with a medical practice provider that can administer basic medical care and assist residents in finding a primary care provider who can continue with their health and wellness checkups. The OSU Mobile Virtual Care will help to bridge the gap in the healthcare world by offering non-life-threatening health services for concerns like the common illnesses, chronic disease management and minor injuries.
The mobile unit is not an emergency room, but they can connect patients with their primary care provider with a virtual visit at no cost. They hope to start people back on the path to a healthy and safe lifestyle while establishing important relationships with a new existing primary care provider.
Common illnesses that can be treated include: Cold and flu symptoms Ear aches or ear infections High blood pressure Diabetes Mild to moderate fevers Skin infections Minor injuries Simple medication refills The unit will also be available for school age children as well as adults.
McIntosh County 4-H will be doing a hygiene drive in conjunction with the OSU Free Medical Van. Because there is such a need in the local area for basic hygiene items 4-H members wanted to get the community involved in the collecting of these needed items: Soap Deodorant Shampoo Conditioner Face lotion Hand cream Kleenex Sanitizer Collection boxes will be out during the week of Nov. 11-15 to collect for only one week.
