Lady Ironheads roll to 9-0 record
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads improved to 10-0 after defeating Okmulgee on Monday. Eufaula defeated Marlow 3-1 on Saturday at the Rogers State Festival. Freshman Leah Green earned the win from the pitcher’s circle. Green allowed just three hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking three.

Eufaula senior Kate Pippenger put the Lady Ironheads on the board with a single that scored a run. Marlow tied the game with a single by Lakyn Foss to make the game 1-1. Both teams battled it out until the fourth inning when senior Jadence Efurd grounded out to give Eufaula a 2-1 lead.

Eufaula extended their lead when Maddie Ballard smashed a pitch to seal the 3-1 victory. Pippenger stole four bases in the contest and Eufaula ended with 11 total stolen bases.

“We’ve definitely got off to a good start but we have a lot of the season to play. Although we’ve come out strong, I’m excited to see how we will respond when adversity strikes. Win or lose, we are always striving to be better than yesterday.

“We faced two tough pitchers this weekend and did enough to get it done and had to make adjustments in game 3 against a different type of pitcher and we struggled, but still found a way to win. These girls really love competing together and take every challenge they get as a full team effort. Jadence Efurd was out week one with an injury but her leadership in the outfield and doing whatever is needed in the lineup is definitely a plus for us,” Eufaula head coach Ryan Green said.

Eufaula shutout Lincoln Christian 3-0, in game one on Saturday. The Lady Ironheads roared out of the gates, scoring three runs in the first inning as an error scored a run and Leah Green connected on a single that scored a pair of runs.

Green earned the win from the pitcher’s circle. She surrendered two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking none.

On Friday, Eufaula edged Collinsville 3-1. Maddie Ballard was hot at the plate as she hit a double that scored a pair of runs in the first inning.

Collinsville battled back as Cadyn Ford scored a run in the third inning to make the game 2-1. Eufaula would score again in the fourth as Kate Pippenger went 3-for-3 at the plate, Ballard 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Jadence Efurd went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Leah Green allowed just two hits and one run over six innings, striking out seven and walking three.

The Lady Ironheads extended their record to 10-0 after run-ruling Okmulgee 15-0.kate Pippenger hit a homerun and drove in four runs on three hits. Pippenger sent a pitch over to center field in the first inning scoring two, tripled in the second inning, scoring one and doubled in the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs were out matched as three athletes failed to make the trip. Eufaula had 10 runs in the third inning. Hannah Needham doubled, scoring one run, Jana Hickman doubled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Pippenger doubled, scoring a run, Kadie Jo Tidwell singled, scoring a run, Leah Green singled, scoring one run, and Jadence Efurd hit a homerun to center field, scoring three runs.

Rayleigh Peterson continued to be productive at the plate as she doubled in the first inning, scoring one run.

Green earned the win from the pitcher’s circle as she allowed zero hits and zero runs in three innings, while striking out eight and walking three.
