The Oklahoma Tax Commission recently released city sales tax collection figures that primarily represents local tax receipts from May business. The monies they reported this period represent sales from May 16 to 31 and estimated sales from June 1 to 15.
Statewide, the disbursement of $202,723,13 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected a decrease of $479,581 from the $203,202,715 distributed to the cities and towns in June last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $33,539,386 according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
In county returns, the counties shared in a $33,539,386 sales tax disbursement and a $6,891,138 use tax disbursement.
The chart below compares city sales taxes and taxable sales in area cities, towns and counties as well as a comparison for the same period in 2023. Taxable Sales are calculated by dividing the tax collected by the tax rate and it shows a rough estimate of retail sales activity.
Eufaula’s tax income showed an 11 percent increase in June 2024 compared to June 2023.
Checotah had a 4 percent decrease during the same period.
