Struck by Fast Mail
On Tuesday afternoon, about two o’clock, Forney Horton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. L. Horoton, was struck by the Southbound Katy Fast Mail and almost instantly killed.
Deceased and an older brother, Curby, who are sons of Section Foreman Horton, had been east of the water tank, and were returning on a railroad velocipede, when they were overtaken by the train, which was behind time and was running over 60 miles an hour, and were hurled from the tracks.
The surviving brother says that they knew it was about time for the train, and that they had looked back not two minutes before they were stuck.

Woman Outshoots Ex-Convict; Saves Lives Of Entire Family
“Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,” sang Mrs. Joe Young one day last week as her sturdy sixshooter routed her former husband, Bill Seagraves, after he had come to her home two miles east of Checotah, in a rage of jealousy, to wipe out her entire family.
Seagraves, an ex-convict, is said to have threatened Mrs. Young and her two children while still serving time in the state penitentiary at McAlester and the straight-shooting Mrs. Young wasn’t totally unprepared when the showdown came.
Seagraves, in an effort to carry out his threat, drove to a point just west of the Young farm and parked his car and then advanced across the field to the backyard of the home where his former wife was busy washing clothes.
Armed with a powerful 30-30 Winchester he asked the woman if she and her husband and two children were ready to die.
The quick-thinking woman bided her time, dashed into the house and grabbed a .45 caliber automatic. Just as the ex-con raised his rifle to kill the woman, she fired at him. The surprised Seagraves made a breakout of the house and the woman fired another slug as the man took refuge behind a cellar in the backyard.
After Mrs. Young fired several shots, her ex-husband fled the scene and later was arrested in Wilburton.

Former USS Carr executive officer visits exhibit U.S. Navy Commander Neil Krueger stood silently staring at the white dishes trimmed in blue.
“I have eaten meals off that dinnerware,” he said. “I have a mug like that.”
Krueger was traveling cross-county from Washington, D.C. to San Diego, where he is relocating. He made a stop at the Paul Henry Carr Exhibit housed at the Katy Depot Museum and Information Center in Checotah.
He was the executive officer on the USS Carr and the decommissioning officer when the frigate ended its time on open waters on March 13, 2013.
