Paws N Claws putting in a pet food pantry
By LADONNA RHODES STAFF WRITER

Volunteers with Paws N Claws – Eufaula recently got permission from the Eufaula Fire Department through Jamie Upton to put in a dog/cat food pantry next to the food pantry already at the station.

“Back in April we had our first pet food giveaway where we were able to give out over 700 pounds of pet food to those in need, whether individuals or rescues,” Lori Powell-Fells said. “We were so grateful to be able to give a little help to those in our community who have been struggling like most of us to put food on the table and food in their pets’ bowls. We appreciate everyone who was able to give to that great cause.

“Now as summer has gotten into full swing we are seeing more and more people abandoning animals, possibly because they can’t afford them any longer and some because they just aren’t responsible owners. However, we have done our best to help rehome any pups that have gone into the local pound and have even been helping others who have been picking up rescues dumped all over the area.

“We have tried to keep the pound our priority, but we have definitely seen an increasing need to help in other areas whenever it is possible. This is why we came up with the idea to put a pet pantry in at the Eufaula Fire Station in hopes it will help our community. We are now asking for anyone who can be a part of the solution and make a difference to help us stock the pantry with dog and cat food for those needing help to feed their pets. We hope our followers of our Facebook page will help us not only rescue our pound pups but possibly provide a few meals to an animal in need.

“We would love to find someone who could donate a two-door Rubbermaid cabinet to the cause so we can put our money towards the animals’ food. Of course, we would love to advertise your business with the donation, but if no one is able to donate, we will find a way to make it happen. We posted a picture of the type of cabinet we will need on our social media page. We get asked for help with food quite often so we are very excited about this! Keli Rippy at BB Boutique on Main in Eufaula has offered to let food and donations be dropped off at her store. Paws N Claws currently has a jewelry rack set up at BB Boutique and Slice of Country in Checotah where a $10 donation can buy you a cute pair of animal earrings or a bracelet. All proceeds then go directly back into the rescue to help these abandoned animals.

“We can always use food/treats, sponsors for adoption fees/spays/ neuters, vet bills, etc. The best thing is for everyone to keep asking people to like and follow our Paws N Claws – Eufaula page. This is how we are able to get so many animals the loving, forever homes that they deserve.”

If you are able to help Paws N Claws with this community project please contact Lori at 918-619-3810 or LaDonna at 479-4224210.
