Fireworks weren’t the only thing flying on the 4th as the Lake Eufaula Disc Golf Alliance held a Mini Disc Golf Tournament here in Checotah on Thursday, July 4.
Twenty-one men, women and junior disc golfers came to challenge our Checotah Sports Complex course. There were three categories: Amateur, Beginner and Women’s. Lynzey Forsblom won the Women’s division with a score of 69. Jeff Crittenden won the Beginner’s division, shooting a 72. Curtis Hartshorn took first in the Amateur division with a 57.
The Checotah course was built in 2013. It has a balance of hard and easy/long and short holes which entice disc golfers from around the country. Checotah DGC is of a high enough caliber to host B-tier tournaments sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association. The key to our most recent success has been the way the course is mowed and maintained by the Checotah Parks Maintenance crew. All 18 holes were freshly mowed and ready for the tournament, as it was every Thursday during our 12-week league, giving Checotah something to be very proud of.
If you would like to learn how to enjoy this fun, relaxing, healthbeneficial, outdoor sport, contact the Lake Eufaula Disc Golf Alliance through our Facebook page. The next league begins Thursday evening, August 15 at Wetlands Park in Eufaula.
