The 16th Annual Checotah Chili Cook-Off had another successful year and Heartland Heritage Director Iris Park was pleased to introduce their new mascot, El Picasso, who signed some autographed pictures.

Locals came from all over McIntosh County to compete for the title of Best Chili that was judged by a blind panel of several judges with a detailed point system and antacids in hand if things got too hot to handle.

Out of 20 cooks, Richard Millsap with Pop’s American Made Chili walked away with first place Best Chili and $500.

Checotah Gun & Pawn took second place and $250 and they also won $150 for People’s Choice.

Lisa Rodebush, McIntosh County Court Clerk, took home third place and $100 plus another $100 for Best Table Décor.

Julie LaRue won second place for Best Table Décor and $50.

Door prize winners were Aubrey Cooper, winning a Janssen Park Weekend B&B, and Colin LaRue, winning a Bluetooth karaoke machine.

While everyone enjoyed bowls of great chili, auctioneer Sam Stamper worked the crowd with a live auction of interesting items donated by the individuals and local businesses.

The night wrapped up with Mike Barnard winning the gun raffle of His & Hers pistols donated by Checotah Gun & Pawn.

All proceeds went to benefit the Heartland Heritage Museum and Gallery.
