The 16th Annual Checotah Chili Cook-Off is set for Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Checotah Community Center. Entry fee is only $20 but tables are limited.
A panel of judges will be looking for the best chili in McIntosh County and who will go home with those bragging rights?
There will be cash prizes for the following chili winners:
• $500 for first place
• $250 for second place
• $100 for third place
• $150 for Peoples Choice
• $100 for 1st place Best Table Décor
• $50 for 2nd place Best Table Décor Chili will be judged by a blind panel of judges with a detailed point system. Contestants should be set up by 3 p.m. and will need to furnish their own table covers, cooking utensils, crock pot and extension/power cords. Chili must be prepared prior to competition with a minimum of four quarts.
Judging will start at 4 p.m.
At 5 p.m. the doors will open to the public. Everyone is invited to come eat all the chili they want for $8. Kids from 7-11 years old eat for $6, and under six eat free.
During the event there will be a grand door prize drawing for a Weekend B&B, plus a kid’s door prize drawing.
There will also be a live auction and a gun raffle with all the proceeds to benefit the Heartland Heritage Museum and Gallery.
