BOND PLACED AT $5,000
E.C. Julian, who shot and killed Joe Grammer Wednesday afternoon of last week, went to McAlester Friday in company with his attorneys and a number of friends appeared before Judge Preslie B. Cole who fixed his bond at $5,000 which was furnished. Mr. Julian’s trial will probably come up at the next term of district court
Rebekah Quail Feast
The annual quail supper given by the Rebekah on Friday night of last week was one of the important events of the season. The spread was fit for a king and was greatly enjoyed by the large crowd present.
Tidbits
– Aeroplanes are quite as dangerous for amateurs to fool with as unloaded pistols.
– The automobile holdup man has arrived. The airship holdup man evidently is not far away.
– A century hence nothing but a strike in factories of the aeroplane trust will interrupt traffic, maybe.
– Millions of dollars are being raised in China for a great university at Hong Kong, but whether or not arrangements are under way for a football team to go with it we are not informed.

BRING IN BIG GASSER
J.E. Weible, who for the past several weeks has been drilling for the Western Natural Gas Company in 29-11-17, was rewarded for his labors last Friday afternoon when he brought in a 9,000,000 foot gas well
Sustains Serious Injury
Mrs. J.G. Schofield, one of Checotah’s best-known ladies, had the misfortune to sustain a very serious injury Wednesday morning. Not realizing the icy condition of the back porch, Mrs. Scofield upon stepping off the back door slipped and fell from the porch to the ground below, a distance of four or five feet, and suffered a fractured limb just below the hip and also a number of painful bruises upon the face and arms.
High School Boys Trim Alumni
The first basketball game of the season was played at the old Tuckabatchee hall last Friday night when the Checotah high school quintette took on the alumni.
The high school boys outplayed their older rivals in every department of the game and won by the one-sided score of 50 to 18.

COUNTY DRAFT TOLL IS HEAVY IN JULY CALL Twenty-seven prospective soldiers and 15 seamen have been called into service by the county draft board, it was announced hit see.
Public Cannery Is Installed In High School Building
Installation of a cannery at the high school to serve the public, was completed this week and will be operated under the direction of Mrs. Cecil King.
The new canning program, financed by the government through the vocational agricultural department, is free to the public.
The need for such a setup has been great as much food stuff has gone to waste due to lack of home pressure cookers.
Soldiers Aid In Farm Reclamation
The work of reclaiming flood damage in McIntosh county got underway Monday with 168 soldiers, comprising the 34th Chemical Company, starting the project under the direction of three officers.

Red Heads Present Splendid Cage Show The All-American Red Heads, famous girls’ basketball team, gave the Checotah American Legion basketball boys the fight of their lives last Saturday night before finally yielding 37 to 30.
Myrtle Wallace, Checotah great all-state forward, was playing her first exhibition before homefolks, as a member of the Red Head team and rang up 12 points from the floor to lead her mates in the scoring department.
Tuberculosis Takes 12 Lives In County
Twelve residents of McIntosh county died of tuberculosis last year, according to Dr. Carl Puckett, who said that state health department figures show total state deaths during the past year of 707.
McIntosh county is one of 13 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties which show an appreciable increase in tuberculosis deaths during the last five years.
STIGLER TO ASK FOR FUNDS TO START CANADIAN DAM $3 million Needed To Start Giant Project This Year Funds for construction of a dam and reservoir project on the Canadian rivers in McIntosh county will be requested during the present session of congress by Senator Elmer Thomas and Congressman Bill Sigler.
The question of whether there should be one large reservoir or two smaller ones still is undecided, however practically every town and city in the area is in favor of the single dam, which, army engineers assert, will cost $27 million more than the two-dam project.

Number Of Voters Decreases
The number of registered voters in McIntosh County has decreased by 12 during the past year, a figure compiled by John E. Cates, Secretary of the McIntosh County Election Board.
The report showed a total of 7,648 persons registered to vole. Included are 7,307 Democrats, 315 Republicans, 2 American Party members and 25 Independent (or non-partisan) voters.
Lake Ministry Sponsors Dinner
The Wildlife Commission of the State of Oklahoma and the King’s Sons’ Gospel Quarter will be featured at the annual dinner of the Lake Eufaula United Ministry to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, at the high school in Eufaula. Everyone is invited.
During the day of the dinner, an exhibit of the Wildlife Commission will be on display particularly for children and youth in the morning in Checotah and in the afternoon in Eufaula.
Air Force News
Airman Deborah L. McPeters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie L. Franklin of Checotah, has graduated at Keesler AFB, Miss., from the U.S. Air Force communications systems operator course conducted by the Air Training Command.

Come rain or shine
Dusk ‘til Dawn Blues Festival
When it comes to the blues, the show must go on.
The Dusk ‘til Dawn Blues Festival is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, and folks around McIntosh County are going to hear some blues – come rain or come shine, says Selby Minner, co-founder of the event.
“One year, we did have some rain,” Minner said. “What we do is move the whole show to the indoor stage, and we ran all the bands within 15 minutes of when they were supposed to go on. And we have the big tent outdoors in case it just sprinkles.”
Fallin speaks at GOP picnic
Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin was the featured speaker at the tri-county GOP picnic held Saturday at the No. 9 Landing. Also featured during the day was speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Todd Hiatt.
Texanna Road receives grant
For at least one McIntosh County thoroughfare in bad condition, help is on the way.
A $1 million piece of a $284 billion federal highway bill has been allocated to making repairs to Texnna Road, the county road north of Eufaula.
And, according to United States Congressman Dan Boren, the work of some local leaders has secured an abnormally big endowment for a county road.
