Soggy but successful 57th Old Settlers Day

Old Settlers Day proved to be a little soggy but still successful this year as the community came out to enjoy the day. Some started their day o having all-youcan- eat pancakes breakfast with the Lion’s Club. _en others came a_er the rain showers cleared out.

Children came from all over the county to play many of the games which included the turtle races, the balloon toss competition and the frog-jumping contests.

Winners of the turtle races were:

1st place – Lillian Spears

2nd place – Ryder Durrett

3rd place – Caysen Martin Winners of the frog jumping contest were:

1st place – Brave Brown

2nd place – Bradi Ann Howell Winners of the balloon toss were: Ages 7 and under

1st place – Bradi Ann Howell and Cabela Terrell 2nd place – Dave Prince and Lennox Hilliard

Ages 8-12

1st place – Landon Armstrong and Gabriel

Watson

Ages 13-17

1st place – Rylee Howell and Connor Terrell

2nd place – Daisy Prince and Alyssa Johnson

3rd place – Peyton Howell and Autumn Casey Adults

1st place Jaylee Roper and Brandon Vogt Many locals also enjoyed the sack races, three-legged races and fish scrambles.

Winners of the sack races were: Ages 6 and under girls 1st place – Oakley Howell

2nd place – Briella Wolfe

3rd place – CabelaTerrell Ages 6 and under boys

1st place tie – Dave Prince and Jaxson Laguna

3rd place – Jax Emerson Ages 7-9 girls

1st place – Caydence Terrell

2nd place –Kyndle Howell

3rd place – Rylan Smithee Ages 7-9 boys

1st place – Joshua Wolfe

2nd place – Keagon Laguna

3rd place – Samuel Dill Ages 10-12 girls

1st place- Nakia Carr

2nd place – Aaliyah Burkhalter

3rd place – Emma Dill] Coed

Ages 14 and up

1st place – Nakia Carr and Aaliyah Burkhalter

2nd place – Connor Terrell and Emma Dill

3rd place – Rylee Howell and Daisy Prince Winners of the fish scramble were: Ages 4-5 girls

1st place – Bradi Ann Howell Ages 4-5 boys

1st place – River McDaniel Also Hunter Baldwin Ages 6-7 girls

1st place – Oakley Howell Ages 6-7 boys

1st place – Rolen Brachcomb Also Camdyn Terrell Some of the entertaining adult games included the Cowchip Toss won by Branson Howell and the Tobacco Spitting contest won by Kamin Cooper.

The Farthest Travelers were Paul Billings and Joyce Putman.

Bond Howell had the Best Beard while Dee Whisenhunt was Oldest Settler.

The Firefighter Challenge had a great turnout and took a lot of skill but Checotah Fire Department walked away with bragging rights for the year and a traveling trophy.

The Old Settlers Day parade didn’t disappoint the crowd with lots of cowboys on horses, tractors, the Class of Checotah band, Miss McIntosh County Supreme Aleah Brooks, fire trucks, Shriner clowns and more.

Many cowboys and cowgirls spent the whole weekend having a good time at the rodeo Friday and Saturday night also, and a festive time was had by all.
