Read all about the history of First Baptist Church from Ellen Vinson, a 48-year member, in next week’s edition of the McIntosh County Democrat.
Vinson’s heritage dates back to 1894 when their family rst came to Indian Territory.
Ellen graduated Northeastern State University and went on to teach English at Checotah and at Connors State College. She has also written two books for the First Baptist Church, titled God’s Garden of Roses (1898-1978) and God’s Garden of Roses – 20 years of First Baptist Church (1979-1998).
“When Bob and I were married in the parsonage 70 years ago we never realized what an important part our faith and our church family would play in our lives,” Ellen said. “We have raised our family in the First Baptist Church and we worked together on many projects, including the centennial celebration in 1998. Now we look forward to celebrating the church’s 125th year.”
