On June 1, Muskogee Sheriff ’s office responded to a possible animal abuse call. When officers arrived they found approximately 103 cattle carcasses and 1 dog carcass on a property that an owner had verbally leased to other occupants. However, when the owner went to check on the property he noticed several dead animals and called the police for help.
After officers saw the condition of the cattle they called in a veterinarian who had to euthanize a calf then transported it back to the Oklahoma State University in Stillwater to determine if there was a disease among the herd or just malnourishment.
After interviewing Lindsey Brashear at the property, officers arrested her on possible charges of animal cruelty. They then impounded approximately 40 cows, four horses and seven dogs and recovered a stolen Kubota tractor also on the property.
This is an ongoing investigation and additional suspects may be charged.
