TULSA ? The Oral Roberts University athletic department has announced that assistant coach Russell Springmann has been elevated to head coach of the men?s basketball program, it was announced Wednesday by Athletic Director Tim Johnson.
TULSA – The Oral Roberts University athletic department has announced that assistant coach Russell Springmann has been elevated to head coach of the men’s basketball program, it was announced Wednesday by Athletic Director Tim Johnson.
Springmann was named the 12th head coach of the ORU men’s basketball program in March 2023 after the conclusion of the 202223 season. During the 2022-23 campaign he helped the Golden Eagles achieve a 30-5 overall record as an assistant. The 30 wins were the most for the program in the Division One era. ORU was the only team in the nation to go undefeated in conference play, finishing 18-0. The team won its seventh
Summit League championship and earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons. Going into the NCAA Tournament, ORU held the nation’s longest winning streak (17). The Golden Eagles finished No. 27 in the nation in the final Associated Press poll and was mentioned in the poll for eightstraight
weeks.
Prior to ORU he spent one year with the Oklahoma City Thunder organization under coach Billy Donovan. Springmann has more than 25 years of experience overall with his longest tenure being 17 years on staff at the University of Texas with Rick Barnes and two years at the University of San Diego.
